Wellington, May 17. The following is the Rev. D. C Bates' weather forecast and summary

The barometric pressure continues liiph in the south, but has fallen slightly there to-day. A low pressure area developed off East Cape, causing rain on the East coast, and increasing force in south-easterly winds, which have prevailed northward of Hokitika and Kaikotira. Fine watjier Jios been experienced in the South Island. The present indications aro for rain and stormy weather'on the East Coast between tho East Cape and Kaikoura, and unsettled weather in the North, but fair weather will probably fall steadily everywhere with strong southeasterly wind northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura. Easterly winds, moderate to strong, elsewhere, changing to northerly after about 24 hours.
