A Pekin cable states that Sir Robert Hart has definitely resigned the post of Inspector-General of Chinese imperial Customs, and Mr. F. A. Agleu, the Deputy Inspector-General, succeeds! him.

In connection with the visit of the Sheffield Choir to New Zealand, Mr A. T. Maginnity, chairman of the Education Board, has, in response to the invitation of Sir Charles Harriss, consented to become an honorary patron of the musical festivals in the Dominion. His Excellency the Governor has accepted the office of honorary president of the festivals.

Mr. Leslie Reynolds, C.E., was a through passenger yesterday on his way from Otira to Wellington, where he is opening an office. Mr. Reynolds visited several friends in town during his short stay.

A Gis'borne te/legram states tiliat Captain Thomas Chrisp, a very old resident, and formerly harbourmaster at Gisborne, died last evening aged 74 years. He leaves a widow and a grown up family of four sons and one daughter. One son is Captain E. Chrisp, of the Union Co.'s service.

A Press Association telegram states that Mr. Robert Fletcher was yesterday unanimously re elected chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board.

The Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Mrs. McKenzie, arrived in New Plymouth last night, says a Press Association telegram. This> morning he will visit the oil works at Moturoa, afterwards receiving deputations. He leaves for Waitara this evening, and before returning to Wellington he will visit Opunake, Stratford and Whangamomona.

Mr. G. S. Tisch was yesterday installed as Mayor of New Plymouth for the fourth year in succession, says a New Plymouth telegram.
