ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

There was a fair attendance at tho Provincial Hall last night. The Rev. B L Thomas was voted to the chair, and he called on the Secretary (Mr. Sclby) to read the report or the outgoing School Committee, and the audited statement of .receipts and expenditure, which were adopted on the notion of Mr. H. AVilkins. The chairman said Messrs Ed"'" Grove, J. M. MacKenzie, W. McConclne, J. I>. Keinpthorne, and John N. Easdale had been nominated toi the committee, and lie caded for tuither nominations, as nine mem Deis were required. T , Mossr*. B. L. Thomas J. K. Johnston H. iWilkius, W. G. Tiller, R. IW, W. J. Bray, W. Wilkcns, and E E. Boyes were nominated. The chairman said, as there wero thirteen candidates, a ballot would have to be taken. Messrs Heath and G. H. Campbell wore chosen as scrutineers. The chairman declared the result or the ballot to be as follows: Key. B. L. Thomas 39 votes ; Rev. J. H. MacKcny,\e 35; \V. McConchio, 35; John JN. Easdale 32; Rev. J. P. Kcmpthome 23; Edwin Grove 28; E. E. Boyes 24; W. Wilkens, 24; and J. K. Johnston 22. These, gentlemen were declared duly elected. Mr. V. Q. Gibbs moved a motion in favour of a Dominion scheme for the promotion of teachers. He said the teachers had discussed the subject fully, and considered a Dominion scheme would be in the very best interests of education. The Rev J. H. MacKcnzic seconded the motion. There should he a Dominion scheme, then members of tho teaching profession would stand on their merits, apart from any ?ocal influence. Mr A. T. Maginnity spoke at length on the subject. Ho asked what would be left for Education Boards and School Committees to do if the appointments of teachers wen; taken out of their hands? He explained tho present system. A long discussion ensued, in which Mr. Worley and the chairman toook part. The'motion was1 carried without a dissentient vote, and it is to be forwarded to tho Minister for Education.

Votes of thanks to the out-going committee, the scrutineers, and tho chairman of the meeting, brought tho proceedings to a close.
