KAURI GUM TRADE.

DEPRESSION CONTINUES

[United Press Association.]

Dargaville, March 20,

The depression in the Kauri gum market, which prevailed throughout tho year, shows no sign of passing away, and diggers, especially Creations, are leaving the field in large numbers to search for more remunerative avenues of employment. It has been asserted that the depression is due to the machinations of a combine in London, but enquiries have failed to elicit sufficient evidence to substantiate that theory. It would seem that one reason for the slump is over-pro-duction, and the other is substitutes for kauri in the shape of other gums being placed on the market.
