the AlbeVfc Hall, Clareville, Queensland, at tho opening of the new gymnasium club, between Mr Con Murphy, editor of tho Liberal organ, "The Clareville Timcis," and Mr John W. Kilner, editor of the "Guardian," the Labour organ. There was a crowded house. For some time past feeling of hostility hns existed betweo.ll the two editors, resulting in challenges being published through their newspapers. This resulted in a four-round glove contest. From the sound of the, gong both men fought fiercely, there being much wild hitting and clinching, The first round resulted in favour of Murphy, and in the second rou.nd Kilner had decidedly the worst of mattars, continually clinching to save punishment. The gong saved Kilner from defeat in the third round. In the last round Murphy jumped from his corner, and got all over his opponent. He had Kilner in trouble at once, and in less than a minute Kiluor was hanging over the ropes in a dazed condition. The referee and police prevented Murphy from, completely knocking him out. Murphy won easily. Bitter party feeling was displayed throughout the contest by sections of the community.
