For many years the Railway Department has worked the loejal wharves, charging the Harbour Board at the rate of'7d per ton. The Government recently granted an increase in I wages to the wharf hands, and asked • the Harbour Board to pay the extra 2d per ton to recompense ihe Department. The Harbour Board entered a protest, and as the sequel to correspondence extending over several months the Board to-night decided to take over the working, of "the- wharves if the Department persists in its refusal to oarry out the original agreement.
