li' the, Clapham murder trial Stciner Morrison, tho accused, was crossexamined' for a whole day and some damaging admissions were elicited. Ho admitted using the name of "Alexander PetroparlofF" in a petition to tho Home Secretary praying that he bo repatriated to Russia. His name nevertheless really was Morrison. He was horn in Sydney (New South Wales) in 1882. He admitted a number of convictions since 1898 for theft and burglary. "That," he said in a dramatic outburst, "is why the police are down on me."
The defence suggests that the murder of Beron was a Nihilist revenge on him.
