NORTH CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.
[United Pkkss Association.] Christchurch, March 8. At a. meeting of tire Education Board to-day a letter was received from tk> Department to the effect that it had not been found practicable to embody in the new regulations the Board's suggestion that small repairs should be left to the Committees. Under the. provisions of the Education ; Act Amendment Act. 1910, grants to j ■school committees for incidental expenses shall amount in the aggregate tor all committees taken together, to not less than 5s 6d for each child in awi-age daily attendance. , .The committoe recognise that this sum would not be .sufficient to meet incidental j expenses, and they accordingly recom- j . mend the Board to inform the school committee that in addition to taking > i over the repair of buildings, furniture, ; etc., as prescribed by the new regula- I tions, the Board would endeavour to continue payment of incidental allowances on the existing scale, which works out at slightly more than 7s 3d for each child in average attendance. It was further resolved that incidental expenses shou'd include cost of all paper and other stationery used in school for school purposes. The salaries of caretakers and the cost of supplying water to school baths.
