SPEECH BY SIR WILFRID LAURIER.

DEFENCE OF THE AGREEMENT. (Received March 9, 0.5 a.m.) Ottawa, March 8. The House of Commons was crowded to hear Sir Wilfrid Laurier defend the reciprocity agreement. He asserted that Canada's trade was certain to benefit therefrom, and ridiculed the possibility of annexation by the United States, asserting that Canada was sufficiently satisfied with her place within the Empire as to desire to maintain it. He hoped peace would over exist between Britain and the United States. Canadian reciprocity Mould aid towards such an end.
