OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the- Nelson Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Socioty was held last evening jn the Chamber of Commerce rooms, Mr Charles Hamilton, the business manager, presiding. There was a full attendance of members.
The report and balance sheet for the past year were read and adopted. The financial statement showed that the Society's affairs are in a very healthy condition.
The following were elected officers for tho ensuing year :—President, Mr F. AY. Hamilton; vice-presidents, Messrs J. H. Cock, R, S. Booth, C. H. Coote, AY. S. Curtis, J. Oldham, A. P. Burns, AY. AA r. Squires, and Dr Andrew; secretary, Mr AY. S. Cooke, hon. treasurer, Mr C. P. Palmer; business manager, Mr Ghas. Hamilton ; hon. auditor, Mr J. H. Finney; committee, Messrs Edwards, Jackson. McCabe, Smith, Gould, and Mrs Topliss. Several new members were elected; It was decided' to stage an opera and a comedy during the forthcoming season, the selection of same to bo left in the hands of the general commit* tee.. -
Arotes of thanks were passed to Mr A. A. Hintz for his services as stage manager of the- "Geisha" ; to Mr AY. AY. Squires for stage managing the comedy, "Doctor Bill"; to the pianiste, Miss E. Everett; and to the press. Several matters of importance were discussed, and Mr Foster kindly gave the society some information relative to the selection of an opera, the proceedings concluding with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
