OBITUARY.

A very old settler in the ..person of Mr. Thomas Ford, passed away at Cr>per.Moutero last week. Deceased u:>s bom in Gloucestershire in 1829. ' He left England at the age of 13 years, and landed in Nelson in the. year 1842 with his parents in the ship Clifford. For a time he lived in and about the Waimeas, but 33 years ago he went to the Upper Moutere, where he had lived ever since. The surviving children are:— Me&dames D. O'Conne'l (Appleby), G. H. Hammond (Nelson), A. Kemp {"Westwood), Miss Ford (Upper Moutere), and Messrs. L. S. Ford (Maranui) and W. G. Ford (Upper Moutere), and G. Ford (Ohakune). The funeral was largely attended by settlers from all parts of the district, and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. French.

The friends of Mr A. J. Hunter, second son <it Mr Robert Hunter, will regret to Jearn of th e -death of his wile,'which occurred at an early hour yesterday morning. Deceased, who leaves a son eight months old, had btsn ailing for about a fortnight, and 0:1 Saturday last took a turn for the wms-y, passing peacefully away shortly after midnight. Great sympathy will bo tdt far the bereaved husband a,nd relatives by their imimerous friends.
