PRESENTATION TO CO LONEL JOYCE.

(both being "ituhlv ir-sciihed), together with a purse of .sovereigns) subscriptions haviiv been forwarded fnnn the Ne lon West Coast, and Maryborough part of the district. Major,W. feimp'on V D occupied tho chair, and referred 'to the goodwill of the officers o,vl corps towards Colonel Joyce, and asked him to .accept th,- practical evidnrre of the est?ein of those formerly under his command. Three cheers were uiven for the recipient, and for Airs Joyce and family, after which Major Brvant, Captains Stiles, Arnold, btewart, Grace, and J. L. Ching, and Mr T M Brown., president of the iMolson DefeiicD Rifb Club, spoke of the, as-'Mßt-ir.ci: ".tul advice always tendered by Colonel Joyce, and regretted his retirement from tho .force. All offered good vis'ies to him in his future sphere of life. ~ , Colonel Joyce feelingly responded. He sincerely thanked tho corps and officers for their good wisihos and the presentations that had beenmade that evening, which would always bo treasured by both .himself and Mrs Joyce. He. l:ud h-'d many pleasant associations diirinig his four years' sojourn in Nelson and he regretted that the time bad arrii.'cd for the severance of thos<' associations. He had started his career in the seventies as a cadei, and had beer.i eb*ly associatwl with two lonwnamlants,. Geneitils Pole-Penfam and Babington, whi'stilie had also acted os staff officer to Colonels Robin .and WVbb. He wished the corps in the district continued prosperity, and asswred them that he would never forget the pleasnnt days spent in Nelson Zr,d the wholo-heartodi manner _in which the officers had supported him.
The resignation of Captain F. A. Uett from the Now Zealand Medical Corps, has boon accepted by His Excellency the Governor. Captain A. A. Grace, of the H Battery. N.Z.11'.A., lias been appointed a tinstee of the Nelson Drill Shod roserro. Tho nppoiutmrnt of the Rev. G. A. Oossman as honorary chaplain of the Takaka .Mounted Rifles is gazetted. Mr Alex. Dull', who for the past few voars has been connected with the local Defence Office, leaves for Christchurch, tho headquarters of the now military district, this morning. Tho local Territorials, especially those connected with the interior, economy of a company, will lose a pood friend by the removal of Mr Duff, who has been a most courteous and obliging official. He will carry with him tho good wishes of many friends ill his new sphere of labour.
