SEARCHERS MISSING.

Sydney, March 6.

The Thursday Island steamer Wiu■deroo reports that one of the launches searching for Mr Staniforth Smith is missing. The auxiliary ketch Sir Arthur has been despatched in search. There is a vague rumour at Daru that sis police of the original party returned to their villages. While tho Merric England was searching the Kirori river the natives reported that the Government party's raft had capsized in tho river and that tho party had been massacred by natives in tho vicinity. The reported area where the massacre occurred had been searched, but substantiation of the rumour was not forthcoming.
