With regard to the railway disaster at Brest, it appears that the express, travelling 53 miles an hour, dashed into a goods train. " Five trucks were telescoped, and the express from Nogent to Paris ran into the wreckage. The engine only was derailed. In all 20 persons were killed, 12 bodies have been recovered, and 60 persons were injured. Owing to an explosion of the tank seven people were burned to death in a few minutes.

' The driver of the express failed to sec the signals, tho wind blowing the smoke into his eyes. Nineteen passengers in tho dining car escaped with cuts from broken crockery and glass.
