LONDON WOOL SALES
THE CLOSING RATES

London, Feb. 8.
At tire wool sales the attendance was remarkably well sustained. Choice merinos closed at par with the December sales. Medium declined five per cent, faulties 10 to 15, and good scoureds to 7} per cent. Crossbreds weakened during the- sales, closing at par to fire per cent below December rates, medium ten. to 15, coarse 7i to 10 per cent. Good lambs' wer© firm, and faulty declined five to 7J per cent. At the lower ratos competition was good, with signs of returning confidence. During the sales 113,000 bales were sold for tlhe Home markets, 66,000 for tho Continent, 4000 for the United States, and 17,000 wore held over. Mnssrs E. Buxton and Co., Limited, report having received the following cable from their London agents (Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co.) yesterday with reference to the present senas- of wool sales:—"Sales closed with 17,000 bales held over, and market irregular. Compared with closing rates of last sales best descriptions greasy merino showed, no change. Compared with opening rates the present sales of other descriptions of merino showed no change. Fine greasy crossbred advanced a shade, medium greasy crossbred declined 2J to 5 per cent, oonriso greasy crossbred slight decline, scoured and slip crossbred no change." Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Nelson, have received from their Welling- ! ton office the following telegram:— Wool sale prices all round lower \d to id; wool heavy condition and very seedy in sonic cases. Keen competition ; bidding animated.
