In consequence of the absorption of the Nelson military district within the sphere of authority of Lieutenant-Col-onel J. Hawkins, officer coninnnndng the Canterbury Military District, Lieutenant-Colonel L. J. Joyce, N.Z.M., fit wesent commanding at Nelson, will be retired, sn.vs the "Dominion." Lieutennut-Colonol Joycewas formerly district adjutant at Wt-lli.ner.on. On the occasion of FieldMn.rslwl Lord Kitchener's visit to Wellington last year Lieutenant-Coloupl Jovee was plncrd. in command of the defensive, position assigned to the Nelson troons durii"l: the field manoeuvres at JolniEonville.
A notification appears in the "Ga zetto" thnt tlio rank'of Major lias lifMi conferred upon Captain Win. Simpson, V..D-. of Nols-mi. Captnin Simpson wars formerly officer in commancl of the Nelson Naval Artillery.
