The match was resumed at 20 minutes past four, there being a poor attendance. Armstrong and Smith opened, Peglor and Faulkner bowling. In tho hitter's third over at the third ball Smith was caught in the slip—l for 14. Ransford made a bad stroke to short leg—2 for 18. Faulkner at this point had taken 2 wickets for 9 .runs. Matthews was foolishly run out—3 for 25. Armstrong was chaercd on driving Pegler for a sixer. At 42 Vogler relieved Pegler, off whom 25 had been scored. Kortlang retired injured. Fifty runs occupied 54 minutes. Armstrong, who played attractively, was beaten by a yoogly—4 for 51. Kenny jumped in at Faulkner but missed and was stumped —5 for 67. Faulkner had now taken 5 for 21. Kortlang then reappeared, and at G7 Sinclair relieved Y.ogl.er. Warnc was caught at deep leg-6 for 70. Parsons was caught behind the wicket on a miss-hit—7 for 75. When Pitcher was dismissed—B for 78^—Victoria had wiped off.the deficit in 95 minutes. At Kyle's dismissal Faulkner had taken C for 22. Tho innings lasted 110 minutes. The South Africans scored tho required numbor in 15 minutes, play lasting until 6.30. The wickets fell 1 for 5, 2 for 5. Sherwell made the winning hit on a drive for four, all run.
In the Australian test team Hordern replaces MacArtney, and Matthews is 12th man.
