An exciting incident occurred during a race held by the Rotorua Yacht Club last woek, reports tho "New Zealand Herald." Four contestants started, and) in rounding the buoy at ■Kawaha Point the Bronzewing, which yyjis lying third set a- largel leading jib, when a squall caught her and she capsized. One member of the crew narrowly escaped, having to dive right under the boat to get clear, but the other two, being to windward, were able to get free from ropes and sails. The other boats threw up tho race, and after 20 minutes' hard work tho capsized boa.t was righted, and taken to her moorings.
A trip through the Hnnterville, Mangawoka, and Taihape district shows wonderful progress in the way of settlement, says a correspondent of the "Kangitikei Advocate." Tho original selectors little dreamed, whori they forced their way so far ahead of roads and bridges, that they would so soon reap such a reward. To those who see no good in the co-operative, road work system I would point oub these and similar districts, whore cooperative contracts supplied the small man with funds to carry on his farm through the lean years of pioneering that all have to got through who occupy bush laud in the. buck country.
