LUMPERS' STRIKE AT MELBOURNE.
SHIPPING IDLE,
(Received Jan. 30, 0.40 a.m.) Melbourne, Jan 29.
Tho wharf labourers working at the steamers Marloo and Arawatta struck, demanding 4d an hour extra for handling cement- and superphosphates. The, company granted the extra money but refused to include it in the agreement. Other wharf labourers, joined in the strike, and all except timber vessels are idle.
About six hundred men are affected by the strike.
w The men thought that cement and superphosphate were included in the list of special cargoes, for which there is extra payment, but when they got the lists they found theT- werei not.
The- masters refuse to include them, although paying the increase now. The masters say they intend to sit back till the man resume work,
