OPENING FIRST CHURCH, TAHUNA.

(From "The Colonist," Dec. 12.)

From the infancy of Tahuna suburb the Rev J. H. MacKenzie, of Trinity Presbyterian Church, has held a service each Sabbath aftewnoon, and his unselfish labours hare now been crowned by the erection of a little church, to which has been given the name of First Church, and yesterday afternoon tiie first sarvice was held in the new place of worship, which was well filled the congregation including a few from town. The key was handed to Mrs E. F. Burrell, who with her late husband has taken a great interest in the church, and that lady had the honour of opening the door for the first service. The Rev. J. H. MacKenzie conducted the service, the new church thus being honoured by being opened for public worship by the Moderator of the Prcßbyterian Church. The ser. vice was j commenced by singing tho hundredth Psalm, and the first l»sson was the 6th chapter of II Chronnies The text was the 47th verse of the 7th [Chapter of Acts, "Bui Solomon built him an house," from which Mr Maclvenzic gave ah entirely appropriate address, and concluded by asking the blessing of God on the building which had been erected with a single eye for the good of the community and to honour Gcd. He prayed that in that house God's blessing would rwst upon very many; that thare little children might team of their Saviour • th&i those engaged in the battle of life might derive renewed strength for tho righteous life; that those who were' suffering from bereavement should find comfort and cheer from the messages from God ; and tha aged find fresh assurance that this life was not all, and have brought clearer to their view that great temple of God "the House not made of hands." ■■'■;.■

, During the service a number of anthems were, rendered by a choir of girls under the direction of Mr Maysou organist. ■ '

The church has comfortable seating accommodation for about one hundred persons, and is admirably suited for its purpose. The. bell was the gift of Mr Alex. Brown,' of the Port.
