A POISONING CASE.
[United Phess Association.] Dunedin, August, 22. . A young man named Eric SinaiLa'ppoared before the Police Court td-ilay on a charge of having attempted tc commit suicide on the 12th inst. The accused peaded guiltj 1 . ' • Sub-inspector Phair said the accused went on the night in question to Mr Sprosen, chemist, and proceured a liniment known as A.8.C., which contains aconite,. beladon.na and chloroform, three deadly prisons. He then went to the Trades Hall, where 'he drank about a third of the contents, falling to th© floor immediately. Small was removed to' the hospital, and had remained there until to-day. *A-;cQn-stable Was attending him day and •night. The hospital doctor said Smail was not in a fit condition to be let go. Expenses amounting to £12 had been incurred; the police charges being £10 4s, the hospital £I, los, and cab hire 6s. .The night the- accused • was admitted to thi • hospital ho asked Constable Fox for the bottle of poison, saying, "I- took it, and I'll take it again." Accused was considerably under the influence of drink when he committed the act. . ' ■■_■■. --His Worship said he would remand the accused for a week for the purpose of obtaining tho police and probation officer's reports.
