PITT MEMORIAL FUND.
- Mr R. W. Stiles, hon. secretary of the Pitt memorial fund, recently addressed a circular letter to the leading newspapers of ~the Dominion, pom ting out that it was proposed Jo erect a public memorial to the late~Colonel Pitt in Nelson, and . soliciting subscriptions, towards the fund,, and yesterday he -received the following letter from Mr John Conolly, barrister and solicitor, of Blenheim :— ; "Dear- Sir j^— l read your letter addressed to the- editor of the -'Marl-, borough- Herald*' this morning, and hasten to be one of the 'first in tliis district, to subscribe a small sum for a memorial £o the late Hon. Colonel Pitt, and enclose my. .cheque for £5 towards the same. Our late friend was for some time' in partnership with my late father, ex^udge Conolly, in Wellington, and I acted in the capacity of managing clerk for "fehem, but both were more friends than masters during that time ; .but long before that, in. the sixties, and until quite a. few years ago, my father and Colonel Pitt were dose friends, and. were held by each other in high estimation. The small sum I send j'ou is but a very small token of my esteem for my late friend and tutor." ' • . .
