SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT AT MURCHISON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Some time ago Mr C. Downie (senior) offered medals for a sevon-a-sido • tournament. Each club entered two teams, an A and a B team, and the matches were played on Friday after,llooll last. In the first match the j ' Braeburn B team met the Maruia B j team. The Maruia team proved .to be j too strong for Braeburn, and the game ended, Maruia ;B 3, Braeburn B 0, Warwick Thomson scoring from a passing rush and Louisson failing to convert. Mr Lodge refereed. In this game Main was most prominent among the Braeburn men, and Barry and Lou-, isson in the Maruia team. In the next match the Braeburn A. team played the Murchison A team. This proved to be the fastest and most interesting match of the afternoon. After some very fast play Goodyer succeteded in scoring after a.brilliant run, and C. Downie added the major points . by kicking a neat goal. Soon after the change "of sides at half time Vercoe was penalised near the Braeburn goal for off-side play, and-a. penalty goal by Goodyfer was the result. No further scores were registered and the game ended, Murchison A 8, Braeburn A 0. Mr Homer refereed. Vercoe, although not up to his usual good form, played a Rood game for Braeburn, while C. Downie and Goodyer, of the Murchison team, put in some brilliant plaj'i . In the third match the Murchison B team met the Maruia A. Maruia forced the.play and it was soon evident that they would havo an easy win. F. Lively play followed till half time, Murchison being on the defensive: Soon after half time F. Soon after play , opened W. Roberts scored for Maruia, Miles failing with the kick. Maruia 3, Murchison 0- A little-later F. Robr crts, of the. Maruia team, scored near tho-corner flag. Hunter took the kick this time but was unsuccessful. Maruia 6, Murchison 0. In the second' spell soon after play was resumed W.. Roberts secured the ball in a loose rush, and scored near'the goal posts. F. Rob- ' crts took the kick but failed to convert. Maruia 9, -Murchison 0. A- little later F. McNee scored for Maruia, -and Miles added the other points. Maruia 14, Murchison 0. When-the whistle went for time no further scores had been registered,, and the gai'mo ended in Maruia's favour. In this match W. Roberts, F. Roberts, F McNee and J. Miles (of the Maruia team) all played exceedingly well, and Goodyer and Ingram, of Murchison, also put in good work for their side. Mr Homer re'ln the final match the Maruia A team had to meet their own B team, and a lively contest ensued: The game opened with some lively play, but the A team soon asserted their superiority. From toiich in the B 25 F. Roberts (A team) seemed the ball, and after a good run passed to Miles, who scored. Miles made an unsuccessful attempt to convert. A3, 80. No more scores were made till the second spell, when Hunter scored for the A team, Milee again failing with the kick. A G, 80. Upon play being resumed Miles got the ball and after a good run kicked. F. McNee followed up swiftly and scored near the goal,posts. James took the kick this time, but was unsuccessful. A 9, B 0. Just before the whistle went for time the A's were penalised near their own goal, but an attempt by. the B's to kick a goal was unsuccessful, and the score remained the same. ■____.' A masting of the management committee of the Rugby Football Subr union was held o.n Saturday morning. The object of the meeting was to make final arrangements re; tho sending away of the representative team.. Resolved that- the team leave .by Newman's coach on Wednesday; that Mr Vercoe be appointed to interview Mr Newman re terms, and tb at- the secretary wire"to Mr. Newman notifying him that the team will be travelling with him. , • It was resolved that Cronadun's offer tb play on September 3rd be accepted, and that the secretary notify them ■ to that effect.
