THE TERRITORIALS.

Last evening the First Battalion Nelson Infantry paraded, and were taken to Trafalgar Park, where work was carried under the supervision of Colonel Joyce by Major Bryant and Captain Stiles. There was a good muster of the several corps, and the Garrison Band had the largest muster for many years. After drill the Battalion marched to Trafalgar street for dismissal. -

It has been decided not to hold thci meeting of the Officers' Club on Saturday evening next, for various reasons.

Lieutenant-Colonel Harkness is at present absent from Nelson, and Major had command of the parade last evening. Captain R f .J. Scddon, who is acting as Quartermaster-General, returned to headquarters yesterdny morning. His special mission to Nelson was to look at the local rifle ranges, and to endeavour to get good ground for another range in the vicinity of town.' Captain Seddon is of opinion that a suitable shooting ground within easy distance of town is a difficult problem, arid the gcmeral facilities for Nelson marksmem are not as gocd as elsewhere. The mudflat range, has been a. source of heavy expense for years past, and an effort is to beimade to.substitute another range for it..-.. Colonel Robin will probably, visit Nelson either on the 10th or 24th of 'next .mouth, and as.no one is more versed in tho new territorial scheme than the C.G.S., it is hoped he will explain the, intended .working. At present it is not thoroughly understood.- " ■ • -. '/'"-

It is gratifying to note that theTerritorials are 1 adding - their quota to the Pitt memorial fund, having up to the present contributed £27 lis ■&!,' which includes amounts as voted from corps fuiid and donations from'.ol.fi-. cers. There arc several amounts-yot to come iri from the Territorials, and it. is understood the men- individually intend contributing. The Garrison Band havci also decided to give a second concert in aid'of the fund, fo. that it is evident as far as tho Territorials are concerned they intend t:> do their portion to perpetuate the mconory of their former respected commander.
