BAD ACCIDENT TO A CYCLIST.

. v Dunedln, April 20. Alfred Birch, who set out from Christchurch tnis morning in an enJdeavour to create a new cycling record to punedin* was the victim of a nasty accident which prevented his mission from having a successful issue. When xoming down Kilmor Hall, about jl6 miles from Dunedin, and when he was well within time, Birch encountered a dog, and in. avoiding it he rode into some rubble, which caused the front wheel of his machine to collapse, the 'rider being thrown about 15 yards. He was picked jn an unconscious condition', and was brought to Dunedin by a motor car. ; He recovered consciousness;!!! iheerening, andwaiS lemo/ed to line hospital. . His injuries consist of slight concussion of the brain, a serious the temple and bruises on and legs. But for bi3 mishap it is? regarded as certain he %ould have established a new record.
