Sydney, April 20. Mr Joseph Cook, Minister for Defence, attributes the Labour success to the Newcastle strike and good organisation. There was, he said, a feeling in New South Wales that the amended Act for dealing with strikers was unnecessarily Severe) and wherever Liberal candidates went they were assailed with cries of "Coercion Act."
Mr G. 0/ Wade, the State Premier, repudiates the idea that the action of his Government with regard to. the strike had contributed to the Labjur victory. MEETING OF THE LABOUR PARTY.
(Received April 21, 0.40 a.m.) Melbourne, April 20. A meeting of the Federal Labour Party is called for Tuesday to discuss the situation, and for the selection of Ministers.
