NELSON JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL RACE MEETING. The "annual race meeting of the Nelson Jockey Club will commence at Richmond. Park to-morrow, and the present indications are that perfect autumn weather will bo experienced for the gathering. The recent westerly gales have prevented the Arahura from leaving Greymouth with the West Coast contingent of ten horSes, but they may be expected to arrive hero either late to-night or early tomorrow morning, v in time tor fulfil tlieir engagements. The North Island and Marlborough horses^' including Balmy Breeze, Ahaupai, Lawn Rose, Glen, Glenspriug, ."Curator, Lares, Puke, Moriscb, as well as the Takaka representatives, Pure Rose and Bridesmaid, have arrived, and have been working on the track. The acceptances on the whole. are highly satistory, and there is promise of some very interesting racing. Ten runners have been left in the Trial Hack, soven in the Hope Hack, ten in the Telegraph Hack; eight in the Grand Stand, and five in the Welter Handicap. For various reasons only four horses remain in the Nelson Cup, but with North " Pole, who has performed so successfully at the recent West Coast meetings, Lawn Rose, who ran so well in the New Zealand Cup last year, Glen and First View competing, the race should be very, open and interesting. Tho two trotting events have filled. exceptionally well, nineteen accepting for the milo and a half, and twenty-ono for the two miles. Both these races should prove profitable for the club. The totalisator will be under the direction of Mr H. James, of Greymouth, who has had considerable experience in working tho machine, with the late Mr F. N. Jones. Prior to his death the latter had made arrangements for the production of an up-to-date race card, and the official programme, as in the past, will be corapleto in every detail. The first race will start at noon, and suitable arrangements have been made with the Railway Department.. The course at Richmond Park is in capital order. Yesterday morning Curator and Balmy Breeze were in company over half a mile, the latter finishing in front in 51 3-ssecs. Bridesmaid galloped for half a mile with Lawn Rose in 52 sees, the latt* completing a mile in .lmin 49secs. Lares and Ahuapai did steady work, and Glen Tui went a couple of rounds at half pace. Pure Rose cut out five furlongs in lmin. 6secs. and Glen galloped a mile by himself in L46i A number of trotters were Out-.
