Berlin, April 12. The police here have discovered that a man, who was formerly a chimney sweep, is the organiser of an international gang of hotel thieves. He began by utilising his chimney-climbing powers to enter hotels. Afterwards he "organised a band of thirty actual thieves, besides agents and receivers. This gang was responsible for the robbery of £24,000 worth of jewels from the Grand Hotel at Genoa on July 7th. 1908. Seventeen arrests have been effected in different Continental cities. . . The Berlin police estimate tnat £200,000 worth of plunder was obtained between 1902 and 1907.
