MR PETTIT'S CANDIDATURE,

Mr Pettit will address- the burgesses at.the Theatre Royal this evening. Mr A. T. Maginnity will preside, and the dress circle will be reserved for ladies and their escorts.

A very large and enthusiastic meeting of Mr Thos. Pettit's committee, was held last' evening at Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co.'s rooms, Hardy street, where very encouraging reports were received, from all parts ot the city. The committee warmly approved of Mr Pettit's intention ol speaking at different parts of the city, believing it would be a great convenience to many of the older residents, in those portions of the town, who would naturally wish to hear the candidate's opinion on, the financial atrairs of the city. . Great satisfaction was expressed at .the large number of enrolments made by the members of the committee, who had been energetic in this matter At the meeting this evening Mr Pettit will deal with the various departments of the city's undertakings, such as the gas, water, arid drainage, and will also refer to the overdraft. . All citizens are cordially invited, an<Ht is confidently anticipated there will be a large audience to hear the candidate's views.
