A Wellington press message says that the retiring members of the Victoria College Council, including Mr A. T. Maginnity, the Education Board's representative, and Mr John Graham, M.P. (chairman), have bwn re-elected unopposed. A Dunedin press message reports the death of Mrs Robert Chapman, one of the earliest settlers and mother-in-law ef Mr J. R. Sinclair, at the age of 87. An Auckland press telegram says that Mr J. C. Morey, a passenger by the R.M.S. Mongolia, had cabled from Adelaide that he is safe and well. This relieves the anxiety caused by tlie recent cablegram reporting the death of a Now Zealand passenger of a somewhat similar name on tho vessel during the voyage from Auckland to Sydney. ' Captain H. McNab has taken charge of tlie steamer Lady Barkiy, owing to the sudden death of Captain H. Young. A New Plymouth Press Association Message states that Mr Fred Bellanger has been re-elected as chairman of the Taranaki Hospital Board Dr Walker in "consequence of the resignation of Dr Leatham, has been [ appointed as medical superintendent, and Dr Wylie as assistant surgeon. A Wellington Press Association message states that Mr H. C. Tewsley has been elected President of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Mr A. J. Clunie, lato second officer of the Mapourika, who experienced a severe accident at Westport a. few weeks ago.was reported the other day to be making very satisfactory progress in the Westport Hospital". It is understood (says the "Hawera Star") that Mr A. Greenfield, of Nelson; has again been temporarily appointed to take up Magisterial duty in the Hawera district. Mr Kenrick, S.M.j who is in the North Auckland district, is not expected to resume work for some three or four weeks yet. Sir Horace Tozor, who has acted as Agent-General for Queensland in London for twelve years, has been presented with a salver and £1170 from frionds in London on the occasion of his retirement. A London press cable says that the late Sir Malcolm MacEacharn, the Australian "shipowner, was buried at Sorbi, in the presence of his widow and family, and many of the tenantry. A simultaneous service at the St, Columba Scottish Church was largely attended.
