A GOOD BARGAIN FOR CANADA.
MR TAFT'S DIPLOMACY. (Received March 29, 1.15 a.m.) - London, March 28. - "The Times' " Washington correspondent, says Canada gives apparently no exclusive concessions, and maintains her right to conclude reciprocity treaties. On tlie other hand * the Americans may arguo that they have practically obtained compensation for the Fron oil treaty. Both sides have promised to do their best to conclude reciprocity in certain products, but this is only obtainable by a treaty wliich the protectionist Senate must ratify. There may also be trouble with the House of Representatives.; The project is almost hopeless except for the fact that the Republicans may well bo anxious to get the credit of making a breach in the. unpopular tariff wall. While J3ir. Wilfrid Laurier and Mr Fielding must be congratulated, great credit attaches to Mr Tafb. His dipHihacy alone saved American and to a less extent Canadian commerce from a severe, blow, and the Republicans from a serious- blunder. ,
