Christchurch, March 23. Tlie Mayor of Christchurch, discussing tlie Government's water-power proposals, said he welcomed tho evidence of the Prime Minister's sympathy with the needs of the people in the matter. He hoped that the Government's scheme would not prevent Christchurch going on with its -e.ien.e of harnessing Lake Coleridge, but if the Government took over tho lake sclieme, it ought to sell power to the people at cost price and not make the scheme a taxing machine.
