SERIOUS "RAGGING" CASE.

[UHITED PBESB ABiOCI AXIOM.] Wanganui, March 9. A so:-':;.-:, c of "ragging" is reported to have occurred in the railway engine sheds. It is stated that at 3.30 on Tuesday morning an engine cleaner named Aunabell, a youth aged about 20, either went to sleep during work or during a spell. He was covered with waste, and soaked in kerosene, which was afterwards set alight. The joke assumed serious consequences, Annabell being badly burned about the face and hands, and the upper portion of the body. He was brought to the Wanganui hospital, where his injuries have been attended to. It is understood that an enquiry was held by departmental officers at Taihape.
