THE WORLD'S SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
I ■ ARNST V. WHELCH. (Special to "The Colonist.") Chrisiohurch, March 9. Arnst and Whelch are in hard training at Akaroa. On. 'Sunday Arnst took a feeler over the full distance, finishing stronfdv at 26 to 'the. minute. He is in excellent fettle, though slightly on the heavy side, but con- : siders he will be about down to \ weight by the time of . the race. Whelch hns put in some fast work on \ various stretches of the course. His l going is excellent, -and inspires his \ supporters with confidence that the ' champion will have to show his best * pace to hholsd s the title. There is no , doubt -that Whelch is a faster man than when he raced last, and has a boat tliat suits him, while his starts and sprints prove him very Bpeedy. v Both men are undoubted stayers; and thoso attending the race should wit- j ness a fast and determined struggle.
