DARING BANK ROBBERY.
1 An exciting incident occurred in 1 the Albion branch of tho Queensland " National Bank tho other afternoon, when a man, of shabby apearance and ! wearing goggles, entered the bank, ; edged his way towards the counter, • and with a heavy revolver opened h'ro upon the teller at point-blank range. In the confusion wii/ck ensued tho man seized a portion of a heap of soy- ' ereigns, and, leaping the counter, escaped. ; The criminal investigation men were quickly on the scene, but the alJeged bank robber is still at large. Tho thief got away with about £70 in gold In the scramble for tho door he dropped some loot on the floor, and did not stop to recover it. The police, who have little to work on, are of opinion that the robbery was planned and carried out by an expert. When the teller, Mr. S. H. Green, saw the man leap the counter and snatch up a handful of gold, ho rushed towards the safe, about a dozen yards away, to secure his revolver, whereupon the thief pointed a revolver at him and fired, and then fled. The range was so short that tho man could scarcely have missed Green if the revolver had been loaded with ball cartridge. No traces of a bullet could be found and it is surmised that only a blank cartridge "was used. Tho report of the firearm was heard by residents in the neighbourhood of tho bank, who shortly afterwards saw a , man leave the Albion railway station j At. the time tho robbery took placo the manager, Mr. Davey, was at lunch at the back of the building.
