CLAIM FOR CLEARING NOXIO US WEEDS.

Hugh Cleland (Inspector of Noxious Weeds) claimed from Alfred Ernest Aaron Fear (Mr Hayes), 12s, cost of having noxious weeds cleared from defendant's land. The Inspector in evidence stated that on January 4th he served notice on defendant to clear part of section 218, Nelson, of noxious weeds, by affixing a notice to the building. Mr Hayes objected to a copy of the notice going in as evidence. The Magistrate pointed out to the Inspector that he could not produce the copy of ' a notice without_giving the other, side notice to produce the original. Continuing, the Inspector said that the work was not done on 7th January, and he put a man on to clear the weeds at a cost of 12s. The account had been rendered but- not paid. In reply to Mr Hayes, the Inspector said that defendant lived at the .French Pass — he did not know this when he fixed the notice on the building. The notice given, however, he considered reasonable in the circum- ■ stances. .At this stage on the application of the Inspector, the case was adjourni ed until the 22nd March.
