. At the instance of Mr F. V. Knapp a> number of parents, past pupils, aud sympathisers met at the Hampden street school last evening to inaugurate a movement to erect a memorial to the. late' Miss Siuiley. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mr A. T. Maginnity, chairman of the Education Board, the Rev. J. H. Mac&enzie, chairman of the Town Schools Committee-, and Mr W. Lock. Mr i>oidge was \oted to the chair. Various proposals were brought forward as to suitable forms which the memorial might take, and after some discussion it was decided that subscribers be called together to decide this when the collecting is completed, and amount available for expenditure known. A committee was set up to arrange for collecting, consisting of the following : The Rev. J. H; MacKenzie; Messrs A. T. Maginnity, W. Look, F. V. Knapp, Doidge, Wimsett, J. Walker, W. W. Snodgrass,J3. Sherwood, and Walkey,Mesdames W. C. Hai-ley, Lemmer, J. W. Nealfc, and Misses Kitching, Shone, Raikes, Wright, Hood^ and Bond. Mr F. V. Knapp was elected secretary. The committee met subsequently, and decided to issue subscription lists immediately, the' opinion being generally expressed that there would be no difficulty in raising a sufficient sum, to "erect a worthy memorial to Miss Sunley, whose memory -will be clierish.ed.'lby " many : who have, been fortunate enough- to 'come under her influenca-. : News has been received in Nelson of the death at Sydney of Mr E. P. Watkis, which occurred last week. Mr Watkis, who retired from the civil service last year, was' agent for the 0 Public Trustee &b Nelson for Several yeaJrs, and was.well'know-n ahd-'riruch respected here*
