"The Times" Wellington correspondent states that the manoeuvres emphatically demonstrated tiro weakness of the JNew Zealand defence system in scientific training, and tho inefficiency of several officers. He adds that 'he gathered in conversation with Lord Kitchener that the geographical situation of New Zealand and Australia necessitates a considerable measure of interdependence regarding defence, because, an enemy lauding in one country would be a menace to the other; hence both should adopt s the same system, and as New Zealand is at present unable to afford a college, her officers should be trained atthe Commonwealth's college Lord Kitchener favoured the establishment of scholarships.
