Wellington, Feh 15. The Railway Servants' Conference resolved that the management be requested to allow surfacemen and gangers to take onl" half an hour for lunch, during winter, leaving work correspondingly earlier. ' That members of the way and works department be allowed to return home by the first available train after finishing their week's work. That iron working mechanics, subclass 5, be placed in the same position as regards pay as the wood working - mechanics, sub class 4. That carpenters who have to provide their own tools, be granted 6d . per day extra allowance!.- •
That casuals who have served ,ovor five years should be put on the - permanent stafl. That all , casuals continuously employed be granted privilege tickets and passes irrespective of what department they.^nay be employed in.. That dining and sleeping car. ...attendants be placed on the D 3 list.
