VETO OR BUDGET?

THE GOVERNMENT'S PERIL.

3IR. ASQUITH AND THE KING.

[Pbess Association— Copyright. J

London, Feb. 14. Mr Hillairc Belloc,M.P., has published a vigorous letter in "The Times" denouncing the policy of passing tho Budget before the question of the Lords' veto is decided as a betrayal of the Liberal supporters. The "Morning Leader" fiercely demands that the Lords' veto shall be the first consideration. The "Westminster' Gazette" protess against Ministers being, bullied, and declares that the Government cannot continue in office and disclaim responsibility for the financial position. The "Morning Post" says it was reported among the Radicals yesterday that Mr Asquith had failed to obtain any of the promises desired from tho King, and the Liberals entertain a very real .sense of the peril the Go* verninent have to face from their own allies. The "Standard" says it is taken for granted that Mr Asquith has not obtained, even if he had sought, the guarantees from the King without which, he said in December, he would not hold office", and that he may be easily persuaded oi the general impossibility of conducting a successful Administration in such circumstances.
