OBTAINING LIQUOR FOR A PRO

HIBITED PERSON

Edward Price, a prohibited person, who was charged with -unlawfully procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, .pjeaded guilty. The Magistrate said he wished it to be known that he was not going to make prohibition orders and then allow them to be become dead letters. Defendant was liable? to ,a penalty of £10 or three months' imprisonment. A fine of £1, with 7s costs, was imposed, or in default 18 hours' imprisonment. A week was allowed in which to pay tlm fine. James Price was charged with having procured liquor for Edward Pricb, knowing him to be a prohibited person. Defendant did not appear. Constable Cameron stated, in giving eri- , dencc, that he saw the two Prices [ together, near the Post Boy Hotel. James Price went into the hotel, and Edward _ Price remained outside. James Price came out and both men proceeded to the railway station premises. He heard James Price say .to his companion, "Here you are." Witness then went up to tho men and saw Edward Price with a bottle of beer in his hand. James Price said that he did not know Edward Price /was prohibited, and witness asked if that was so wdiy had he not invited Edward Price into the hotel? Defendant did not reply. Herbert Swainson, licensee of tlie Post Boy Hotel, stated that he supplied James Price with a bottle of beer- on. December 11th. A day or two later defendant told him' that he did not know Edward Price was prohibited-. —

Defendant was found guilty, and a fine of £3 was imposed with 7s costs.
