MIDLEWEIGHT.
J. Wallace (Nelson) v. H. Pike (Nelson).., Neither of these boxers appeared to know much about the game, and did a lot of preliminary sparring before coming together. They indulged in a good deal of reckless and ineffective hitting at long range. Pike gained the decision. J. O'Connor (Appleby) v. P. Clark (Riwaka) : This was one of the most interesting contests of the evening, both boxers indulging in some very solid work. In the first round O'Connor confined his attention to his opponent's body and got in some good blows. There were some lively exchanges in the second round, O'Connor doing most of the leading. Clark boxed gamely but seldom got home on his opponent. In the third round O'Connor pursued forcing tactics, driving Clark to the corners, but the latter evaded punishment by ducking cleverly. The veteran sport gained the verdict amidst applause. With experience Clark should.make a good boxer.
