The Chief Postmaster here has received, the following - teflegram from .the Chief Postmaster at Auckland : — ■ Captain Partko.w of the schooner Coronation from. Gisborne, reports that when twenty miles east of White . Island a carrier pigeon- alighted on the ship, On one leg of the bird was found an , inscription "N.Z., 1036," arid on the "other '.'ls7.'' He begs me to report it iri case some importance is. attached -to tho". bird. A strong .south west ■'.': wind has been blowing here the lasttwoorthree days, and I am inclined to .think.; that the bird was .blown out of its course.
