TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCILS CONFERENCE.

[ United Pkess Association. ] Wellington, Oct. 28. The Trades and Labour Councils' Conference carried with acclamation a emotion conveying hearty approval and monal support to Mr Lloyd George,- British Chancellor of the Exchequer, "in his courageous effort to bring about better conditions in the Motherland," and expressing the sincere hope that his efforts would be crowned with the 'success desired by all lovers of humanity. The Conference also approved of the general principle embodied in Mr Guinuessls' national insurance sciheme. ' The Conference, by 22 votes to 2, adopted a motion that the time had arrived when, the Trades and Labour Councils should take definite ac-' tion in endeavouring to return labour members to Parliament. The, Labour Conference passed resolutions : urging the Government to nationalise the iron industry ; to open State ooal mines depots; to start a State ferry service between the North and South Islands ; to establish State boot and clothing factories, Und flour mills; to bring' down a scheme to utilise the Dominion's water power ; and to acquire the mail carrying service. It was resolved that the Arbitration Act should be amended so that seven men might form a. union.
