THE LORDS' AMENDMENTS. THE FINANCE BILL. London, Oct 26. The House of Lords has passed the Irish Land Bill. Lord Crewe, Secretary of. State for the Colonies, declared that 'after the amendments introduced by the Lords the Bill was no longer a. final solution of t«lie Irish land question, aa tho Government had intended .it to be. He added that the safeguards introduced would cause an Irish demand for .further amendments. Lord Lansdowne said. that the Government must recollect that the Lords were asked to put into shape a measure- containing an extraordinary collection of ill-thought out and imperfectly discussed proposals, based upon an attempt to include anything the Irish Nationalists suggested. Sir Eldbn Gorst, cs a Liberal, opposes Mr Harold Fox at Preston at the general election. • In the House of Commons, in o"rdor to cast ridicule upon the- Finance Bill, the Opposition endeavoured to raise a discussion at the report stage upon the 13 kinds of land value mentioned in the measure for tho guidance of the Government valuers.
