CORDIAL FACTORY DESTROYED.

Christchurch, Oct. 23. Between nine and ten o'clock last night the aerated water factory and stables of Ballan ancl Ray, in York street, Opawa, wore totally destroyed_ by fire, the only property saved being a four-wheeled waggon ancl spring-cart. The promises were all •right -at nine o'clock, according to the of a re-sident in the vicinity, but afc lialf past aiine tlio building was well alight, tlie fire having a hold in the middle of tihe building. No water was available, and the building, whioh was ctf wood ancl iron, was soon reduced to embers. The building, a small one of one story, and its contents were valued at £SOO, and insured in the Yorkshire office.

We regret to learn that Mr Pliilip Best, of Appleby, was so unfortunate as to have his engine houso, together with its contents, which included a milking machine, totally destroyed by fire at an early hour yesterday morning. Thore is a policy of £250 with the New Zealand Insurance Compamj' on the property destroyed, but tho inconvenience will be very groat indeed in dealing with a largo herd of milkers.
