NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board was commenced yesterday. Present : Messrs A. T. Mag-u-nity (chair); "W: N. Franklyn, W Lock, P. W. Smith, J. W. Fair,. J. Munson, T, Baigent, J. B. Shepherd, and J. D, Beuke.

The tender of Messrs J. P. Cooke and Sons for painting the Nelson Boys School (£3l 2s 6d) was accepted. The sum of £15 was voted for repairs to the same school.

Tho tender of Mr A. McNabb* (£lO 4i 6d) for painting the teacher's residence at Karamea/was accepted. ■ The question of additions to the Globe Hill school was ordered to stand over. L ' : \ . :■.;.. - .-■ r'

The Department advised tbat-a sum of £250 had : been granted for a new school at /Wangapeka. The Board's Architect (Mr A.:R. Griffin) Svas instructed to put v the work in hand at orce. ' . . ;

Bremer be -forwarded in that order; WaitahuV sole -teacher, name of Helen A Mcßeth to be forwarded to tho Committee ; Matakitaki, name of May Anderson to' be forwarded to the Committee ; Westport, pupil teacher, name of Clara R. Risk to be forwarded; Westport, assistant, names of Florence M. A. Suisted and Edith E Bryan to be forwarded in that order ; Whakarewa, assistant teacher, names of Esther Flintoff and Grace G. Maloney to be forwarded in that order; Uruwhennaj sole teacher, names of Mildred Slione and Brendan M. Lanery to be forwarded in that order ; Kahurangi Point, one applicant, left to the Irspector. : The Treasurer's statement was presented "as follows: — Fixed deposit, £1000, less dr balance amount account £471 Is 4d, less unp resented cheques, £179 0s Ba, cr balance in cash book, £349 18s 8d; general account, dr balance £274 16s 4d, grants advised £3750, less unliquidated" votes £1950, amount available £2074 1 6s 4d. The small cash balance was due to the fact that a number of special grants for buildinga (such as £1000 Westport Technical School,adclitions Cape Foulwind, Karamea, Birchfield schools, residence at Seddonville, Nelson Girls' fencing, etc.) are now due to the Board.
