The Appeal Court was today hearing, the appeal; Commissioner of Stamps versus McDonald and others, in ,which. is, involved i the question {whether, bequest's to the "Salvation Army, are exempt' from - succession duty. The late Samuel Wilson, of Dunedin, left £16,000 to the Salvation Army, on which duty was claimed under the Act. of 1901, which provides that bequests for the benefit of the public shall hot pay duty. Judge Williams decided in the Army's favour, and the appeal is from this decicion. vMr Hoskinj? appears for appellant, and Mr Adams for "respondent. The argument is unfinished.
