■ I . ANNUAL EACES. . J^ The. first day of the Nelson Jockey j Olub s annual race meeting was postponed from yesterday until to-day on account of the wet weather. The [ morning broke fine, but cold, and , dense black clouds banked up from the south west.' rain commencing to fall at nine o'clock. It 'continued steadily until after ten o'clock, when the President (Mr E. E. Trask) having ascertained by telephone that there appeared little prospect of the weather clearing at Richmond, consulted as many ofltcers of the Club as were available, and it was decided to postpone the races until to-day. There are , quite a large number of visitors in town for the races, including a large contingent from' Blenheim. Several I motor car lpads came through, but one containing Mr J. J. Corry, the' owner of Bracken, and party, broke down at Canvastownftlie passengers f finishing the journey by coach, and not arriving until, last evening. . The weather cleared- before . iroon and remained beautifully fine for a couple of hours when rain again 'tie- l scended. , '.''■' - • Extra trains have .Keen- arranged between Nelson and ftiehinond to-day particulars of which are advertised.
