At to-night's meeting of the; Council, the .canvasser in charge* of the petition said that heliad lost a bundle of papers containing some signatures. ■'.''. 'The canvasser was suspended, from the , ■ Council^ - and -he wasireporte^ to his Tlnion. - . ■ The Council passed a resolution regretting £be action of the <Prime_ Minister in pledging the Dominion in respect to a Dreadnought, and supported the action of Mr T. E. Taylqr, M.P., in sending his telegram to Mr Asquith.- --" There is a likelihood of the-Hon. J. Rigg, 'M.L.Ci, : standing for the city mayoralty, in the Labour interests.
